The Father Pedro, founder of the host village of the underprivileged “Akamasoa”, and the Malagasy association Andrimaso, observatory citizen for the presidential elections, has been elected Champions of peace 2017 during the event “Samy Gasy Award”, last Friday, in Antaninarenina. The vote has been carried out by the public through a ballot that had to be completed by each spectator. Finalists on three nominees in each categories: the individual category and the Association category, every winners has received a trophy from the Search For Common Ground, organizer of the event. These results are the fruit of a long process. A call for applications has been launched on the website and on social networks for each individual or interested association in the contest. The public have also proposed potential candidates. A recount then took place to select nominees. According to Search For Common Ground, the organization rewards every year the actors who have worked hard in the peace building. This year, the organization has decided to recognize the works of those who have contributed much to his consolidation and construction of peace. This action is part of the SamyGasy Project, an initiative that consists of training hundreds of young leaders and “peacebuilders” on different themes, including the “Common Ground Approach” or collaborative approach that wants a win-win outcome for two partiers in conflict situations. A project in collaboration with the United States Embassy. For this last session, the SFCG trained 83 leaders. Besides the election of the Champions of peace 2017, the voting of the public for the best initiative joint has also took place last Friday. This one has been won by the group “Peace”, the project is based on the reinsertion of young girls prostitutes or have been sexually abused at the community. After a continue training which has started last March, five groups of young leaders from different regions has been formed for social project realizations: the group Aina Vao, the group GSM, Peace, Fanjiry and Mandravasarotra. After field trips and surveys, these groups have tried to realize their project on a pilot site, under the supervision of the SFCG.
“We have started our activities in May. Field trips began in November in Soanala, pilot commune of the project. We didn’t receive funding, we made our best with the avalaible tools. Now, we are negociating with the UNFPA and the PBF”, has explained Sariaka Razanajatovo, member of Peace group. The second place has been allocated to GSM group, which the project is based on the real application of the fee within the institutions for peacebuilding.
